I would expect this large loaded area to cause frame rate issues.NOTICE: Activation key must be used on a valid Steam account, requires internet connection. So the game often has a much larger area loaded than it needs to. Fargrove Crater looks like one big empty field because you're still in the wilderness zone. There is also an area I call Fargrove Crater, which is where the town of Fargrove should be, but is accessed by going on top of the mountains and entering what should be Fargrove without using one of the gates. So you can exit Fargrove's south gate, move south and climb up the mountain, move a little west and north while on top of the mountain, and come back down outside Fargrove's west gate, with no loading screen. There are certain spots at the mountains that you can climb up and reach other areas of the wilderness without triggering any loading screen. Second, the wilderness zone (the area you enter when you leave Fargrove) appears to be one huge zone that is all loaded any time you are in the wilderness. I would expect this hanging behavior to mess with an fps indicator. For me it would appear to pause for what felt like one or two seconds when loading a random encounter in the wilderness, while not showing any kind of loading indicator. First, the game hangs when loading a random encounter. If you have options to cap your frame rate at 30 or 60 or somewhere, you might want to use those.Īs to what might be causing such big swings in frame rate, two things come to mind.

I would not expect a game from 2005 to be future-proofed enough to handle frame rates higher than Skyrim can handle. Skyrim came out in 2011 and has some issue with frames per second higher than 60 causing objects to fly around because the physics bugs out.
